SoX Change Process
SoX has updated its network change process to include change categories, implementation schedules and Change Advisory Board approvals. Change categories that Participants and Peers can request via https://noc.sox.net/help/ include Standard, Normal and Emergency changes.
Change Type | Description | Schedule |
Standard | A change that is low-risk, repetitive. No approval required. Includes external vendor maintenance (i.e. Fiber providers, Facebook, Google) | 6:01 PM – 6:00 AM eastern |
Normal | A change that is non-repetitive, broad, affects multiple participants/networks. Approval required. Seven-day notice required. | Sundays 12:01 AM eastern |
Emergency | A change that is implemented to restore/improve service, non-repetitive, broad, affects multiple participants/networks and. Approval required. Less than seven-day notice provided. |
Examples of Standard Changes include trunking VLANs between two ports, adding prefix to prefix-list/anti-spoofing filter, and adding BGP peering for new IX peer. Examples of Normal Changes include IOS upgrade, OSPF / iBGP changes, new ISP BGP peerings, and power work. Participants will receive email notification of network maintenance at time of request and again 24hours before the maintenance.
